Delvincourt, a French composer, was appointed director of the Versailles Conservatory in 1931 and of the Paris Conservatoire in 1941.

"His most important decisions were the founding of the Orchestre des Cadets and a chorus (so avoiding the evacuation of his pupils to Germany), and his invitation to Messiaen, despite much comment, to teach the philosophy of music... After Debussy and Ravel, he was one of the most ardent of French composers in trying to recapture the spirit of the Middle ages and the Renaissance, as in the Danceries..."
