Romanian-born Italian soprano Virginia Zeani "made her début at Bologna in 1948 as Violetta, which she also sang at her London (1953, Stoll Theatre), Vienna (1957), Paris (1957), Metropolitan (1966) and Bol′shoy (1969) débuts and at Covent Garden (1959). She made her Scala début in 1956 as Handel’s Cleopatra opposite Nicola Rossi-Lemeni (whom she married) as Julius Caesar. In 1957 she created Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites at La Scala...
