Leipzig: C. F. Peters [PN 7735, 6239, 8467], [vol. 1-2: ca. 1890; vol. 3: ca. 1899]. 3 volumes bound together. Folio. Quarter dark red leather with marbled boards, raised bands on spine in decorative compartments gilt, marbled edges and endpapers. Vol. 1: [i] (titling within decorative border printed in sepia), 2 (contents), 3-117, [i] (blank); Vol. 2: 1f. (title), 3 (contents), 4-106, [i] (blank) pp.; vol. 3: [i] (title), 2 (contents), 3-96 pp.
The title of Vol. 3 lacks the printed note "Neu revidirte Ausgabe" and has the plate number in its place; the other two titles have the plate number to the foot of the page; all three titles are otherwise identical. Oval handstamp of "Cercle de l'Union artistique Bibliothèque" with manuscript number "20683" to center to front endpaper; without manuscript number also to head of title of vol. 1 and to verso of rear endpaper.
Slight loss to upper edge of front endpaper. Uniform light browning; title leaf of Vol. 1 minimally foxed.
The first Peters edition of the complete piano works (vol. 1-2: second issue).
Later Peters editions use the same plates and title design, but they spell the name of Louis Koehler with an Umlaut and the word "Concerte" as "Konzerte"; instead of Rich[ard] Schmidt, they list August Ruthardt as co-editor; and their contents pages are re-engraved, with some including incipits. There is also an edition in one volume using the same plates and the title page of the present volumes 1 and 2, but the contents are arranged in a completely different order (sonatas coming last); the uniform plate number is 6176.
