First Edition of the earliest monograph on Schoenberg.
In 1904-5, Egon Wellesz was one of Schoenberg's first students, perhaps even his very first. Unlike Alban Berg and Anton von Webern, he soon parted with his teacher to focus on musicology. He continued to compose prolifically, and even though he cultivated a more traditional idiom, his veneration for Schoenberg and discipleship to him remained unbroken, as attested to by the present volume.
