"In 1836 Spohr married... 28-year-old... Marianne [Pfeiffer], a gifted amateur pianist who stimulated him to compose a series of chamber works with piano, for which he had written little up to that time; these included the three duos concertants for violin and piano (1836–7), the five piano trios (1841–9), the Piano Quintet (1845) and the Septet (1853)."
