Polist-born pianist and composer Anton de Kontski (originally Antoni Kątski, 1817-1899) pursued a cosmopolitan career. From 1835 to 1851 he lived in Paris, meeting Chopin; from 1851-1853 he served as Prussian court pianist in Berlin. After stages in St. Petersburg (1854-1867) and London (1867-1883), he settled in the U.S. in 1883, teaching in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He died during a concert tour around the world at the age of 82, on the border of his native Poland. Item #26081
