Il Barbiere di Siviglia, to a libretto by Cesare Sterbini after Pierre-Augustin Beaumarchais' Le barbier de Séville, was first performed in Rome at the Teatro Argentina on February 20, 1816. The opera is one of Rossini's most beloved works.
