"In 1881 [Grechaninov] left school and went to the Moscow Conservatory... After a dispute with Arensky over composition teaching he left in 1890, and from then until 1893 he studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory with Rimsky-Korsakov... In 1910 he was granted a 2000-ruble pension for his liturgical music... He settled in Paris in 1925, composing much and making a living as a pianist...
