Das Dreimädlerhaus was set to a libretto by A.M. Willner and Heinz Reichart after the novel by R. H. Bartsch and it premiered in Vienna at the Raimund Theater on January 15, 1916. The English version (Lilac-Time) by Adrian Ross and G.H. Clutsam opened in London at the Lyric Theatre on December 22, 1922.

"[Berté's] greatest success came with Das Dreimäderlhaus, an operetta using melodies by Schubert and based on a distorted version of his life. This became one of the greatest operetta successes of its time, achieving popularity in the USA as Blossom Time and in Britain as Lilac Time." Andrew Lamb in Grove Music Online.
