Fine etching of a cello player by British artist Charles Keene (1823-1891). The subject, in a wig and long coat, is depicted seated, bowing his instrument with his right hand, contrary to traditional left-handed bowing practice.

131 x 83 mm. Printed on lightweight laid paper, with the artist's signature stamped at lower right just below platemark.

Remnants of hinges to upper corners of verso.

Keene was a noted graphic artist and illustrator. He was also a musician, particularly interested in early music.
