Jean-Féry was a violinist, harpsichordist, conductor, and composer. "Having attracted the notice of Lully, he became his pupil in violin and composition... Rebel is... one of the first composers of sonatas in France, along with Charpentier, François Couperin (ii), Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre and Sébastien de Brossard...
