A lyric drama in three acts by Delius to his own libretto, The Magic Fountain was first performed in London by the BBC Radio on November 20, 1977. "In addition to the legend of a magic fountain, Delius’s second opera (1893–5) treats of Spanish wrongs to the American Indians of Florida. About this time he considered a trilogy of operas: the first to treat of Indians, the second of black slaves (the eventual Koanga) and the third of gypsies (an important element in A Village Romeo and Juliet)."
