Upper wrapper worn, chipped, and detached; spine and lower wrapper lacking. Some signatures split or partially split; sewing loose; small publisher's cirucular handstamp to lower margin of cast leaf.
First performed in Paris at the Conservatoire on January 4, 1846, revised in 1871.
"Although probably conceived in the summer of 1843, [Franck's] first large-scale work, the biblical oratorio Ruth was not completed until 1845 for during this time the pressure of engagements had resulted in a serious illness."
