Conceived on a grand scale, Hérodiade was first performed in Brussels at the Théâtre de la Monnaie on December 19, 1881, under the direction of Stoumon and Calabrési and in Paris at the Théâtre Italien on February 1, 1884, under the direction of Maurel and Corti.
