An Italian dancer and choreographer, ":a period in Vienna from 1800 exposed [Gioja] to important new stimuli, notably the instrumental music of resident composers, the new lighting techniques and stage effects of the Zauberopern and acquaintance with the younger choreographer Salvatore Viganò.
