Die lustigen Nibelungen was first performed in Vienna on 12 November 1904.
Straus, an Austrian composer and conductor, quite well-known for his operettas and salon music, studied with Grädener on the recommendation of Brahms and then went to Berlin in 1891 as a pupil of Bruch.
