Matilde di Shabran (or Beauty with a Heart of Iron), set to a libretto by Jacopo Ferretti after J. M. Boutet de Monvel's play "Mathilde" and F. B. Hoffman's libretto for the opera "Euphrosine," premiered in Rome at the Teatro Apollo on February 24, 1821.

This libretto was produced for the 1835 production in Trieste featuring then 20-year-old soprano Giuseppina Strepponi in the title role, a performance that helped to launch her colorful career. Item #31726
