Schützendorff made his début in Düsseldorf in 1908. He joined the Berlin Staatsoper in 1920 where he made over 400 appearances and created the title role in the world premiere of Berg's Wozzeck (1925).
The Honig family emigrated from Vienna to England in September of 1938 and then to the United States in 1939. The family papers are held at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.
