Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), to a libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein after Henri Meilhac's L'attaché d'ambassade (1861), was first performed in Vienna at the Theater an der Wien on December 30, 1905. The English version opened in London on June 8, 1907, and then in New York City on October 21, 1907.
