Die Försterchristl, to a libretto by Bernhard Buchbinder, premiered in Vienna at the Theater in der Josefstadt on December 17, 1907.

Georg Jarno's most successful operetta, Die Försterchristl was adapted for performances across Europe and the United States, enjoying a run of sixty-four performances at Herald Square Theatre on Broadway in 1910-11. The operetta was also adapted for film on four separate occasions: The Bohemian Dancer (1926), and The Forester's Daughter (1931, 1952 and 1963). Jarno achieved success in musical theatre toward the end of his life and was at the peak of his compositional career when he died in 1920 at age 52.
