Birchall was "one of the most important London music publishers ... After making his business one of the largest of its kind in London, Robert Birchall died in 1819. The firm now or shortly after (1821) became Birchall, Lonsdale, and Mills." Kidson: British Music Publishers, Printers, and Engravers, pp. 9-10.

The present catalogue is thus presumably the earliest, or certainly one of the earliest, to carry the firm's new name.
