Autograph letter signed. Dudley BUCK.

Autograph letter signed

1 page. Octavo. Dated March 20, 1879. Addressed to "My dear Griffith."

Buck informs Griffith that Easter rehearsals begin on Saturday evening and that he would like him to come, "but I haven't the heart to refuse letting you off if the parties decline to feed you on any other occasion ..."

Attractively matted and framed with a reproduction bust-length photographic portrait of the composer. Overall size 293 x 370 mm.

"Buck played a central role in the establishment of organ and choral music in the United States. He was the first American-born composer to write an organ sonata, and pedagogical works such as Illustrations in Choir Accompaniment instructed generations of organists. It was his choral music, however, that won him an enduring place in American music ... Buck's music epitomized the Victorian era in American culture." William K. Gallo, revised by N. Lee Orr in Grove Music Online.
