"John Cage" in blue ink above the printed return address of The Wesleyan Center for Advanced Studies, Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut on the recto of an envelope addressed to Harrie Johnston in New Bedford, Massachusetts in Cage's hand. Envelope ca. 165 x 94 mm. postmarked November 14, 1960.

Cage was "one of the leading figures of the postwar avant garde. The influence of his compositions, writings and personality has been felt by a wide range of composers around the world.
