Weil, a German baritone, made his debut at Freiburg as Wolfram in 1901; he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in New York in 1911 as Kurwenal, then sang Faninal in the American premiere of Der Rosenkavalier there in 1913. "By 1939 he had left Germany and settled in New York as a teacher. His large repertory of more than a hundred roles included Wotan, Telramund and many Italian and French parts. He had a strong, expressive voice which he used to great dramatic effect." Elizabeth Forbes in Grove Music Online.
