The Minuet in G, composed in 1887, is the first of six pieces in the composer's op 14, the Humoresques de concert. A short piano piece, it became quite famous, eclipsing some of Paderewski's more major works including the Symphony in B minor (the "Polonia"), the Piano Concerto in A minor, and the composer's noted opera, Manru. The Minuet has been recorded many times, including by Paderewski, Rachaninoff, and Hofmann, and has also been arranged for violin and piano (by Fritz Kreisler), for cello and piano (by Gaspar Cassadó), and for band (performed by the John Philip Sousa band in Rochester, New York on 12 November 1894.
Paderewski was a noted Polish composer, pianist, and statesman. "It is the legendary pianist, the charismatic statesman and the truly remarkable personality that stake their claims on our attention today." Jim Samson in Grove Music Online.
