Three-quarter length. Praetorius is depicted with his hand on an open partbook on a table before him with an inkwell and quill pen to his right. Within oval textual border. 105 x 90 mm.

Slightly browned; small area of slightly light impression at extreme lower right corner and lower textual border; trimmed to plate mark and laid down to backing paper.

A re-engraving of the portrait first published in the composer's "Creutzbergenis," 1606 .

A German composer, theorist and organist, "[Praetorius] was the most versatile and wide-ranging German composer of his generation and one of the most prolific, especially of works based on Protestant hymns.
