The composer is depicted half-length, turned quarter left, his face inclined towards the viewer. He wears a long wig, olive green unbuttoned jacket, white shirt, and cravat.

Canvas 760 x 610 mm (30" x 24"; overall size overall 940 x 790 mm (37.25" x 31"). Attractively framed.

The original painting by Denner is held in the National Portrait Gallery, London. It is believed that Handel gave it to his friend J. C. Smith the younger (1712-1795). See Handel: A Celebration of his Life and Times 1685-1759, National Portrait Gallery, London exhibition catalogue, p. 36, plate 8.
